What is SpoolPilot, and who is it for?
SpoolPilot is an iPhone app for running a small 3D-printing business: pricing a print from the slicer, reading the fees Etsy actually charged on each order, profit per order and per product, and filament inventory by barcode. It is built for people who sell what they print, mostly on Etsy, from one printer up to a small farm. Does it work without an Etsy shop?
Yes. Pricing from the slicer, filament inventory, and the product cost model need no shop connection, and sales at markets or in person are logged by hand in two taps and get the same profit treatment. Sales sync and reading real fees are Etsy-only today.
Is there an Android or web version?
Not yet. SpoolPilot is a native iPhone app. The pricing calculator on this site is the one part that runs in a browser, free, with no signup. If you want the app on Android, the calculator page has a place to say so.
Is this the same SpoolPilot as spoolpilot.com?
No. SpoolPilot at spoolpilot.app is the iPhone app from Opus Design Group LLC for people who sell 3D prints on Etsy; spoolpilot.com was a separate web filament tracker that has been discontinued, and the SpoolPilot hardware project on GitHub is unrelated. This app has no web dashboard, no public API, and no hardware.
How does SpoolPilot calculate profit?
It starts with what the buyer actually paid, then subtracts the real costs one by one: the exact fees Etsy charged on that order (transaction, payment processing, listing, and Offsite Ads, read from Etsy’s own ledger, not estimated), then the filament by grams at your price per kilo, the electricity for the print time, printer wear, packaging, and the wage of anyone you pay to help. What’s left is the profit on that order. Your own time is not subtracted: when you price a print, the app shows what the sale pays you an hour for your hands-on minutes instead. For a print you haven’t sold yet the calculator estimates the fees instead, and anything estimated is marked with a “~”.
How is SpoolPilot different from Craftybase or a spreadsheet?
Craftybase is a full manufacturing-inventory suite built for the desktop; a spreadsheet only holds the numbers you remember to type. SpoolPilot is a native iOS app focused on one question, what did this Etsy order actually make you, and it logs the sale, the real fee, and the filament grams the moment they happen. Nothing to enter, nothing to reconcile. What software a 3D printing business needs lays out the options side by side.
What does it cost?
SpoolPilot is free to download. Filament inventory, the pricing calculator, and manual tracking are free with no limit, and so are ten synced Etsy orders a month, each with the exact fees Etsy charged and what you kept. The slicer scan is free for three scans, then a one-time $4.99 unlocks it for good. Pro brings in every order and adds the full profit-and-loss, profit per print hour, weeks-of-stock forecasts, purchased parts, and printer capacity, $12.99 a month, $99.99 a year with a 7-day free trial, or $249 once for Lifetime. Those founding prices hold through October 31, 2026. From November 1 they are $17.99, $149.99, and $349, and a subscription started by October 31 keeps its price for as long as it stays active.
Is my shop and customer data private?
Yes. Your data lives on your iPhone and your own iCloud. Nothing is uploaded to us, there is no account, and the app contains no analytics or tracking SDKs. SpoolPilot connects to Etsy read-only (it can’t change your shop), and it only ever reads your shop’s numbers, never your buyers’ personal details. This website does count visits, so we know which pages people read; it never receives anything from the app. More in the privacy policy.
Which slicers and platforms does it work with?
The camera reads print time and grams from Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer, PrusaSlicer, and Cura screens. Sales sync works with Etsy today. SpoolPilot is a native iPhone app (iOS), not a web dashboard.
Why was SpoolPilot created?
Because I got tired of guessing. I’m Sean, and I run Opus Design Company on Etsy, over 3,000 sales of 3D prints. I could never get a straight answer on what an order actually made after Etsy’s fees, filament, and my time. Spreadsheets fell behind, and every other tool wanted a desktop. So I built the one I wanted: real profit, in my pocket, right at the printer. SpoolPilot is published by Opus Design Group LLC.
