3DPCC vs SpoolPilot: price the print, then find out what it really made

Both apps price a print before you make it. SpoolPilot gets there with less typing — point the camera at your slicer screen and it reads the grams and the hours off it. Then it does the part no calculator does: connects to your Etsy shop and shows what each order actually earned, from the fees Etsy really charged.

Pricing a print: scan it, don't type it

3DPCC asks you to type the weight and the print time, then offers pricing tiers and a margin slider. SpoolPilot opens the same job with the camera: hold it up to Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer or PrusaSlicer and the grams and print time come straight off the screen. No transcribing numbers between two apps.

Then set the margin you actually want. SpoolPilot solves for the price that hits it after Etsy's cut — the percentage fees and the flat ones — rather than adding a margin on top of cost and leaving the fees to eat it. And when a target margin isn't reachable at any price, it says so and tells you the highest one that is, instead of printing a number that can't happen.

The part where they stop and we keep going

3DPCC's Etsy feature estimates fees from the published rate card, in its own words to see your net profit before you list. That's a reasonable way to price. It is not a way to know what happened.

Etsy publishes a rate card — transaction 6.5%, processing 3% + $0.25, listing $0.20, Offsite Ads 15% — and any calculator can apply it. What Etsy deposits often isn't that number. Offsite Ads gets attributed partially rather than landing cleanly on the order you'd expect. Processing rates differ by country. Coupons change the base the percentage applies to. Regulatory fees appear in some regions and in no formula.

SpoolPilot connects to your shop and reads the fee entries on the orders themselves. That's the difference between a price you set and a profit you can stand behind at the end of the month.

Where 3DPCC is the better buy

Fair is fair. Pick 3DPCC if you need quote tracking — moving a job from draft to pending to delivered, with a branded PDF at the end. SpoolPilot has no equivalent and isn't trying to. Pick it if you need VAT, which SpoolPilot doesn't handle yet. Pick it if you want a one-time purchase; $49.99 once is a real advantage over any subscription. Pick it if you work at a desk in a browser rather than standing at a printer. And pick it if you don't sell on Etsy, because SpoolPilot's whole edge is reading a ledger you wouldn't have.

SpoolPilot costs more, and it should only win if you want the thing it does: price the print in seconds from your slicer, then know exactly what the sale made after Etsy took its cut.
